The sun will come out tomorrow
Occasionally when facing decisions that I am not ready or wanting to make I will joking say, “I’m going to the future me deal with that.” This allows me to quickly move on to something else (usually more enjoyable things) and avoid any anxiety in the moment. While I am not an advocate for “putting off for tomorrow what you can do today” I know for certain that worrying about the future: (a) will not change it or; (b) does not add any value to your life.
Playing the “what if game” is only beneficial if you want to waste time and energy on things that most likely won’t actually happen. In a recent study it was found that 85% of our stress related thoughts will never materialize: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/85-of-what-we-worry-about_b_8028368
The reality is, we are not guaranteed tomorrow however are all lucky enough to be living in the here and now. Be mindful of what you control and leave all of the anxiety and worry to your future self. Odds are when the sun comes up tomorrow morning he/she probably won’t have to deal with it anyway!
If you don’t want to take my word for it, take Gods! In the book of Matthew (Chapter 6, verse 34) Jesus said, “Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
