LEAD with Effort

During a press conference, Nick Saban (the head football coach at Alabama) referenced the great Martin Luther King Jr. in describing his desire to be the best. According to Saban there was only one man in Montgomery Alabama who Dr. King would let shine his shoes, due to the pride he had in his performance.

In fact, Dr. King did once deliver a sermon referencing this man and then elborated by saying, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

Saban, arguably the best coach in the history of college football and winner of six national titles encourages us during his press conference to: (a) know you did the best; (b) to be the best you could be; © in whatever it is you choose to do. Dr. King believed the same thing. It is clear, LEADers focus on Effort.
