“Game Off”

*This message is intended for individuals like myself who have not tested positive for Covid-19 nor have lost loved ones or whose job has not been affected by the global pandemic of 2020.

There is an unwritten rule that children abide to when playing in the street. When a car approaches, someone yells “game off,” and the game is temporarily suspended until the car passes by and it is once again safe to resume play.

During the global pandemic of 2020, Covid-19 has acted like a car (more like a massive semi-truck), and we are just children playing in the street. The biggest difference in this analogy, however, is usually when an actual car passes by, we are only interrupted for a few seconds, opposed to the months that we’ve been waiting for life to return to normal since the world announced “Game Off.”

Just because life has been paused, don’t take your ball and go home because just like the car speeding down the street, Covid-19 will eventually pass. The game of life has not been cancelled; it has just been postponed.

It’s unbelievably difficult to recognize any positives related to the pandemic of 2020, as countless individuals have been majorly aflicted by this devastating virus. However, can you imagine in those games you played as a kid if you were somehow awarded months on end to practice the game while everyone else just had to sit and wait? You would be at a tremendous competitive advantage! It would be like being on a game show and being able to freeze time to google the answer.

The same holds true in our current lives. If a scheduled event has been put on pause or pushed back, don’t just sit around and wait, but rather use the time at your disposal to improve yourself and your situation. Your future self will thank you for it!
